Scarborough Fair

"Scarborough Fair" is a traditional English Ballad which was claimed to be dated in the 17th century. The song was adapted and modified several times.

Here are a few popular versions. Compare the differences:
a) Simon and Garfunkel
b) Sarah Brightman
c) Hayley Westenra

Here are the opening lines:
Are you goin to scarborough fair?
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Remember me to one who lives there,
She once was a true love of mine

Sarah Brightman -Scarborough Fair
Seems to have strong harp..She drops her jaw so big =__=''

Simon & Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair
Seems to have more acoustic guitar *_* I like~~ Lower in pitch...

Celtic Woman - Scarborough Fair
Got something like flute solo at the beginning..Sound not as deep as
Sarah Brightman and Simon & Garfunkel

Simon and Garfunkel - He sang it with a cool & calm voice without pulling his notes. The music is like balade in the past times.

Sarah Brightman - She sang it kind of like the opera type, pulling her notes. There's a kind of flow in her voice. Song is very very slow.

Celtic Woman - Very nice voice. Super cool tones. Very unique and song is slow but suits her voice.

Hmm.. in my opinion, I think Simon & Garfunkel's version of Scarborough Fair is somehow filled with masculine voices. HAHA, obviously. This is the version I like.

Sarah Brightman. I know she's an opera singer, so yeah, she sings this like an OPERA !!! LOLS.

As for Celtic Woman, it's nice, in a way that the instrumental accompanient did well >< She sings in a rather high key.

But I think if it was only music without voices, it would be alot better especially in piano, guitar, flute, pan-pipe. etcetc. :D

Simon&Garfunkel - It's very soft but their face expressed their relaxed tone as their mood. Only instrument seen, Guitar.
Sarah Brightman - Th singer sings very sweet and well. Th music is smooth also. Th background and place used simply expressed a natural feeling making one feel calm and relaxed.
Celtic Woman - Many instruments are used. Th singer is able to pitch very high, hold her breath for long. And sings loud&clear.

dwsimon & garfunkel-low pitch...not as flowing as the others...

sarah brightman-she has a very high voice but she sang it nicely and smoothing...

Sarah Brightman - Scarbarough Fair is more melancholic and more high pitched.
Celtic Woman - Scarbarough Fair
is also quite melancholic and high pitched and also soothing.
Simon and Garfunkel - Scarbarough Fair is more of a countryside genre and has a lower pitch than the other 2 singers.

Sarah Brightman has a opera-like voice , matches well with this song . Her singing has a flow to it .

Simon & Garkunkel sang it like normal, lower & not so flow-ish . He sang it with a cool & calm voice .

Celtic Woman has a nice voice , sounds abit like Sarah Brightman , but she doesnt pull her notes . More suitable for this song then Sarah Brightman because i dont think this song , the singers should pull their notes .

:D

the difference between Sarah Brightman and Celtic Woman is that the instruments in both songs is different and they way they sang it.
The instruments used in Sarah Brightman's song is a piano, whereas a concert band is used for Celtic Woman's.
Sarah Brightman sang it as those opera type. She drags her notes.
While Celtic Woman's sang the song, dragging not as much as Sarah Brightman. She sang it normally, as in not those opera type.

Simon & Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair
His sound is the deepest of the three. He can control his voice very well despite of him singing a deep pitch. This piece is accompained by a guitar.

Sarah Brightman -Scarborough Fair
She has the highest pitch of the three. She opens her mouth quite big when she sings, but she really have a very high pitch.

Celtic Woman - Scarborough Fair
Her pitch is slightly lower then Sarah Brightman. She has a strong voice and she can sing very well. This piece is accompained by a flute.

Simon & Garfunkel-
I like the harmonising between the two guys and also the guitar playing in the background. It is very peaceful and he never stress the words of the lyrics.

Sarah Brightman -
I like her voice as it is like an opera like kind of voice. She sing it with full of feelings. You can hear the drum beats in the background. The drum beats make the song more like a rock and roll type.

Celtic Woman -
I like her voice. Her voice can be high ptched or low pitched. The way she sang the song and the background make the song very deep.

Simon and Garfunkel : I am not so sure about his music and sound. but basically, i think that he has a great voice and he's a great singer.

Sarah Brightman : her voice is very power and she uses her might to sing the song. think she's quite a good singer and she's more suitable for those song which needs more power while this song seems more to be elegance.

Celtic Woman : i like her singing the most (: think she's a real good singer. she has the elegance the song needs& she sung the song better than SARAH BRIGHTMAN. =x
anyways, she's a real good singer, knowing when to use her elegance and her power (:

Simon & Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair
More on guita. The song is sung in a lower pitch. It sonded a little more softer and in echos.no pulling in the notes

Sarah Brightman -Scarborough Fair
i can hear a bit on the seagulls :)A slightly higher pitch than the Simon & Garfunkel. Not much pulling of notes too.Starts with the piano.
A flow in her singing.Slow music.

Celtic Woman - Scarborough Fair
A flute solo in the begining. Her voice IS in a high pitch.Pulling of notes. Going high and low in the singing to add "dramatic" effect
